Needing help with IR or Thermal camera project

Hi all. I sell toys and my fingers are not pleased right now. So, we get cases of 'blind bags' like these:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Minecraft-Action-Figure-Hangers-In-Blind-Bag-Series-2/45832346

These are simple, plastic packages that contain 1 of 15 different dinosaurs.  We have people that want to buy a certain figure, say a stegosaurus.  But they want the package to be sealed.  So, we have to feel each bag, identify some unique feature to each dinosaur, and then label it as such.  Now we can sell that particular toy to someone who wants it and it's still sealed.  But, as I stated in the opening sentence, this is murder on one's fingers after doing 50 - 75 of them.

What I'm looking for is a way to 'x-ray' the bag.  That is, I don't necessarily need to see colors or graphics, I just need the general outline of the objects in the blind bag and then I will know instantly which of the 15 dinos the bag contains.  I'm not sure if there is such a thing, but thought I'd ask.  My first thought was to use a thermal camera, heat the bags up for a very short time which would not affect the packaging, but hopefully the contents are made of a different plastic than the packaging, so they would show up differently using a thermal sensor.  I was really hoping an IR camera/IR emitter combo would do the trick, but I'm not informed enough on the subject to know for sure.

If any of you know how to get this done, I'd truly be thankful.  And my fingers would thank you even more!!

Regards,
