Re: What happened to the A series?

I've used an A710 as a work camera for many years, mostly taking pictures of various electronic sub assemblies we manufacture for use in engineering documents and other various purposes.  While I can say it served me well, when I purchased my G7X, I then relegated my G15 as my main work camera.  After using it at work for awhile, there is absolutely no way I would want to go back to the A710 over the G15 in any shooting conditions, for any purposes.  The A series may have a loyal following but kudos for progressing technologies.  In addition to better lower light sensors, really a huge advantage when Canon started producing cameras with faster lens.

Nice action shot. Shows why my wife and I still have 2 A710IS's (7 MP) and one A720IS (8 MP).

Back then, Canon's stated policy was to use as little processing of the images in-camera as they could. That ended with the G7 which had a fair amount of noise reduction applied. The A650IS and G9 used the same or very similar sensors, and the 650 had a lot more noise at ISO 400 and above; but it also retained a lot more detail.
