I'm a photojournalist and agree that this review is dead on. The lack of IS is too bad because I sometimes work in extremely low light conditions where stabilization would be handy. I would also appreciate a deeper lens hood to protect that massive 82mm front lens element.

But the optical quality of Canon's 24-70 f/2.8L II is truly outstanding, (better than the 70-200!). In addition, the resistance to lens flare, even when shooting directly into light sources, is incredible for a zoom lens.

Canon is charging a ton of money for this mid-range zoom, but you can sometimes find a price drop if you keep checking for sales.

This lens is nothing but piece of PERFECTION on steroids!

Ditto ditto ditto...the best lens I've used by far. All aspects of it are awesome. Wouldn't it be great if it was 24-85...maybe,I totally love it anyway.
