I consider 135mm L is the best Canon lens because of very special images it draws. However, as much as I love the results, it is a specialty lens.

Same can be said about 85L, while both 85L and 135L are my favorite portrait, but it's the 85L II I consider "special" and the one I prefer to use wide open.

I do not see why they have to be compared one against the other. I own one of them and have used the other. They provide the best bokeh in Canonland (better that the 50L or the 35L that I also own, and I do not want to compare to 200mm+) and that is all that matters to me. There is no doubt that the 135L is sharper/less CA wide open than the 85LII wide open, and this is a fair comparison because they have the same physical apertures then. But that does not take away much from the 85LII because the shorter FL offers different possibilities.

And yes, I would be concerned about a new sharper 85L - I would scrutinize the bokeh carefully before I can declare it better. If Canon just corrects the LoCA, that would be great, but if they go the Sigma way - I will buy the 85LII for a good price.
