The 85L II is better than the 135L. In fact this is the only lens where Canon beat's Zeiss in IQ. The Zeiss 85mm f1.4 has worser purple fringing /COMA

What curious statements...are you talking about the Canon 85 f/1.2L II?

If you are, then certainly my 85 is much worse than my 135 at f/1.2, 1.4 and 1.8 when compared to f/2 in the 135. It starts to match it at f/2, true, but the whole point of something like the 85mm is to use it at the wider apertures.

This seems to be universally true for this particular pair of lenses, not just my pair. Maybe be you have a dud 135?

As for that "Zeiss 85 f/1.4", you should also clarify if you're talking about the Zeiss 85mm f/1.4 ZE PLanar T* or the Otus just to see exactly how far from reality the statement is because, precisely, purple fringing is the main problem with the Canon 85 f/1.2L II.

In fact, optically-wise, the Canon 85 f/1.2L II is a "meh!" performer at wider apertures and I can't wait for a version III featuring BR to be introduced.

As long as you can't open up the 135 to 1.2, nothing of what you say really matters.

True, the wording in that post was a little odd, as though you could use the 135L at f1.2, which obviously you can't.  Of course you get pretty similar DOF results though different compression at f2 with the 135 and say the 85 at f1.4...and much less CA.
