Rough canvas - Quattro
1

I would love to have a Quattro. I like the form factor and in combination with the LCD viewfinder it is a very promising approach.

But... I have problems with the images. I always see the same micro-structure in the pictures. It looks as if the picture was printed on a rough canvas. There is some pixelation which is a bit like jpg compression artifacts. I assume it comes from the algorithm which turns 4:1:1 to 4:4:4.

Here is an example. I simply took two full rez pictures from the web. One from the DP0Q, one from the DP1M. I know, this is kind of dangerous because I don't know about the respective processing of the pictures, but they are just representing what I am used to see. I took a part of the pictures there they have about the same kind of detail. It is a side-by-side screenshot from a 100% maginfication.

I typically don't do too much of pixel-peeping. And I have to say that I am pretty sure that this effect may be negligible in a moderate print. It is almost invisible when looking at the pictures full screen on my 27" monitor. But still, it feels as if there is something wrong. If I accept that kind of pixelation I can also go for a Bayer sensor with about the same amount of smearing. I hope there is some improvement of the algorithm down the road.

As I said, I would love to have a Quattro....
