Question for .dcp color profile experts...

Hello Digital Gurus,

There is another thread http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3896380 in which someone created a .dcp profile by taking a Canon 1DX .dcp file, using dcptool to "decompile" it to xml, and changing the camera name to a Nikon camera. (Then "re-compiling" into a .dcp file).

I have done this in the past as well between Nikon models.  The profiles seem to work very well indicating that there is little difference between cameras even across brands.

It seems that you would tend to get strange colors by using such a profile, unless Adobe is first adjusting the RAW file to some baseline standard, then using the .dcp profile to make minor changes to emulate the camera modes.

Questions:

1. Can anyone explain where the .dcp profiles fit in during the conversion process?

2. Does it make sense, that you could apply one camera's profile to other cameras and still get reasonable results?

Thanks!

Curtis
