Spectacular, But Not for Everyone
1

To summarize:
*Soft at f1.4
*chromatic aberrations @ f1.4
*Bitingly sharp @f2.8, and ridiculously bitingly sharp from f4.0 through f8.0
*Suffers from focus shift at f-stops greater than f1.4, can be corrected using live view and DOF preview button
*Don't even bother without live view if shooting other than f1.4
*worthless without tripod due to focus shift caused by non floating elements that do not adjust electro-mechanically as aperture diminishes as shutter is pressed
*beautiful metal construction which can be complemented well with a German B+W filter.
*solid to hold and feel
*a joy to turn the focus ring
*expensive, but worth it
*significant vignetting wide open, which dissapears by f4.0
*gets sharper and sharper as you stop it down up to f8.
*gorgeous accurate colours, better than any Canon 50mm.
Bottom line: Intensely frustrating or immensely satisfying, but always challenging. Not for everyone.

I have upgraded the lens from 4 star to 5 star. The colours are simply phenomenal and Canon lenses 50mm f1.4 and f1.8 cannot match. No longer frustrating for me. Simply Luxurious and gratifying.
