Samsung 50-200 lens - Problems

Hi,

I’ve had my NX1000 for a while now and earlier in the year purchased the 50-200mm lens. Really pleased with it.

One day, the lens just stopped working properly. It wouldn’t focus, the aperture reading was blank and it wouldn’t focus (F- - message). I also got the ‘check lens’ error. I unmounted/remounted, tried the kit lens (which worked fine) but it just wouldn’t work.

I sent it back under warranty and it was fixed. The authorised Samsung repairer paperwork said ‘replaced complete lens assembly’. It worked fine after that.

I’ve used it a few times since but then the other day it did it again – couldn’t set aperture and wouldn’t focus. I switched off camera, then on again, and it said ‘check lens’. I then switched off camera again, detached and re-attached lens and it was fine. Been fine since.

This worries me because if it fails when I’m away and doesn’t come back to life, it will be very annoying.

I’ve read this can be due to poor contacts but the contacts on lens and body are immaculately clean. The kit lens has never played up (although hardly used it since getting the new one).

Any thoughts? One option is to send the lens back again even though it’s working OK now (still under warranty). Then my nagging worry is it’s something to do with the body…

I haven’t updated the lens firmware – worth it?

Thanks!
