HowTo? Use S-Log2 PP7 to emulate RAW ETTR for stills at ISO 100? Possible? Flawed?
Gave up on s-log2. Getting closer to ETTR using UniWb + PicStyle + zebra 100+
The Sony and RawDigger newbie gave up on using s-log2 to facilitate ETTR. Here's what seems to work better. YMMV:
- UniWB (using spread-sheet approach described by Jim Kasson ... Thx! )
- Picture Style Neutral, Contrast= -3, Saturation = -3
- Zebras 100+
- ...
- Intent is to compensate for JPEG pipeline processing that throws off histogram/blinkies/etc.
- "Canon defector" spoiled by MagicLantern Auto-ETTR and RAW blinkies/histograms
- ...
- Back off 1 click (1/3 EV) when zebras just show up in non-spectral highlights
- Check with RawDigger on .ARW's and then .DNG's from DngConverter
- Almost invariably getting within 1/2 stop of "true max ETTR" of 15871 DNG value
- Typically getting 13,000+ of highest RGBG channel (probably within 1/5 stop of "true max ETTR")
- Worst case almost invariably leaves two channels of unblown values for ACR/LR to recover.
- Most blown pixels were 0.1% or less in two channels, leaving two channels not-blown.
- Tests ranged from ISO 100 in sunlight to 30 sec ISO 640 f2 with Sony FE 28mm f2 and Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8L IS II.
- ...
- Flawed? Suggestions appreciated.
