Best option for birding

I currently have a7 with the FE 55, 28 and the kit lens. I just started photography and have been doing mostly landscape. I want to start doing some casual birding later this year. It doesn't seem a 400mm - 600mm is on Sony's roadmap. I plan on putting $2k for gear. Would it be the best option to get something like a Nikon D7100 or D7200 and a budget tele like the Tamron 150-600 SP? I hate to get another system for different needs, but I think even if Sony comes out with a decent tele, it will be like 3x the price as a Tamron or Sigma.
