trouble deciding between lenses.
Sep 4, 2015
Hey Im having trouble deciding between a few lenses and since my girlfriend is no help decided to ask here for some perspective. I am selling my panasonic g6, 20mm f1.7 and my 45mm f1.8 here and on ebay and going to be picking up an em5 mark 2 and some new lenses to go with it.
Currently my daily carry kit is my gx7, 25mm nokton, and my 85mm f1.8 canon fl and speedbooster and the 9mm bodycap fisheye. The nokton is fantastic and so is my 85 FL but my 85 has an issue with the aperture that I havent been able to fix yet. Its rendering while beautiful also doesnt match my 25.
I have been extremely tempted by the new 10.5mm nokton and as I dont own a non fish super wide lens it would fill a space in my lens lineup. I am far more interested in the way a lens renders an overall scene than things like corner sharpness etc. I would use the 10.5 for street, video, architecture, and some astrophotography. I have also been asked to photograph some spartments by my landlady. I enjoy doing lowlight nightlife photography as well so the f0.95 aperture is nice as well as its shallow dof effects.
Currently the 10.5mm nokton costs 1100 usd and it would be hard to find it any cheaper. For the same price I could get the 12mm saymang cinema version and the 42.5mm nokton. Thats my dilemma. The 42.5mm would replace my 85mm fl which has started to go a bit faulty and the 12mm would give me a nice wide angle that should be decent for astrophotography and such. But the 10.5 would give me a lot more creative options at my super wide focal length and be a bit wider with the em5 mark 2 video crop. Whatever I dont buy this year I will probably buy next year. I could get both noktons now but im doing my best to not do that.
So please somebody talk to sense into me and help me decide why to choose 2 lenses over 1.
