Any way to speed up 700D burst mode?

Hi all, this is my first post.

I'm shooting a sporting event on a budget next week. I have just received my new 700d, and I'm wondering is there any way to optimize the speed of burst shooting?

Firstly I would like to try to shoot RAW if possible, but I may switch to JPEG if I have to, as long as I remember to switch back when I shoot non moving subjects.

Are there any settings I can change to increase the speed of burst mode in RAW? Do things like image preview make a difference? And what about the things the camera does to the image internally like sharpening and contrast (would using the 'neutral' of 'faithful' setting speed things up?

Lastly I am only using a 40mb/s card, would I see a benefit in a quicker card, particularly when it comes to how long the camera stays busy whilst writing the images from the buffer to the card?

Thanks for any suggestions!
