The old 28-70, f/3.5-4.5 is also a cheap, reasonably well built and sharp lens. Combined with the very good AF 70-210, f/4-5.6, it still makes for a very capable travel duo. Aloha.

Hey, that was my outfit along with the N90s during the film days around mid 90s.  They did a great job with film for many years.

When I went digital in 2002, these two lenses were shelved (actually repacked them in their old boxes) and sat there for years.  Recent talks and interest in these "vintage" AF Nikkors sparked my interest to bring them out of storage.  I took out the 28-70 and did some test shooting with the D610 around the house and the images looked impressively sharp.  I can't wait to get out and give this lens a thorough digital workout.  I'll probably take the 70-210 out of retirement and see how that performs also.
