i am not sure about that, i notice that delay in my new 100-400mmII and my big white primes (600mm f4.0/300 f2.8) lenses. i do have to press on shutter button half way to set my lens/camera get ready for shooting (to pass that clicking and focus delay). it can be a bummer because i have missed some humming bird shots because of this nasty feature. also i had to deal with moon shots with my 600mm f4II. i finally learned to go manual with focus, IS, and everything else to shoot stationary subjects for focus accuracy purpose.
