Hi all im new to this great site and forum.
I have been out of the "game" of photography for over 7 years and im coming back for a serious hobby.
I'm reteaching myself the fundamentals of still photography with an eye on switching over to videography in about 6 months or so.
I was cruising amazon 3 weeks ago and checked the warehouse deals and saw a NX30 openbox In great condition for $330 backed with the iron clad amazon 30 day return policy.
The price was way lower than anywhere else on the internet at the time and arguably now(august 2015). so I took the shot on it knowing I can back out if its sub-par
I have been through this thing one side and down the other read the manual completely and almost know it like the back of my hand now.
and my conclusion is I love it so far.

The styling and grip are good
The 90 degree viewfinder is nice (looks like a little room inside but it works for me)
I love the Samsung interface workflow and layout.... the software seems off the charts great... I went to best buy looking at canons and Sony's on display and it seemed like windows 95 interface vs OSX
The video looks awesome to my under-educated eyes I put this together as a video test

If you go full manual the shots look great to me here is a few from my last night photography session.

There is a terrible hiss when I use an external mic for audio (I think is can be fixed with a mic with db boost?)
The auto-focus seems pretty bad on video CAF mode. It keeps searching even when focus is locked. (but I can make a manual focus rig for it)
The battery runs out pretty quick (can get multiple batteries for cheap on amazon)
Cant manually change ISO while recording video only way to do so is auto ISO (is this normal on most cameras?)
So all that to say this...
I'm really liking this camera at this price point ($330) the interface and handling.
I only have about $500 per month to play with my photography/videography hobby.
Its getting close to the moment of truth... I have about a week left to return the NX30 to amazon... and im considering doubling down and getting another Samsung lens, tripod, preamp mic, battery etc.
Or I could return the NX30 and with my $500 have about $900 cash to work with.
Here is my short list for alternatives $900
-Panasonic Lumix G7 - was checking it out at best buy its seems pretty cool but the build quality feels cheap, cheap, cheap... compared to NX30... but 4k video and ive read that the video functions awesome...Really made with video in mind.
- Samsung NX1 - this camera seems to be the best ideal in my opinion but the price is too high (unless I save for 3 months) Last month the price was going down on NX1's I seen some used going for around $850 (body only) but now they are spiking in price the word is out now they are good cameras as of today I cant find any used ones for less than $1100 and new ones are not much more
-Samsung NX500 - I can get this used and not break the bank keep in the Samsung world and have 4k... Just not a fan of that tiny new aged form factor I like the pseudo-dslr feel of the NX30 , NX500 also has no mic input and no viewfinder.
-Sony a6000- the only thing I like about this camera at best buy was the crazy good auto focus... it was off the charts good, seemed to be built like a tank. but everything else was lacking in my opinion... the form factor and no flip screen, no mic input.
-Canon 70d- this is a good, good camera in my opinion seems to be the best autofocus on the planet for video and its big "real" camera... just too big and its Canon... I cant say why for sure but I really want a mirror-less system.
Well when you write things out it seems to help with the decision...
while writing this I seem to have come to the conclusion that I will keep the NX30 and get some gear a few lenses and such to keep shooting and getting better and save up for an NX1 in about 3-4 months.
It funny like the drug dealer that gives you a taste for cheap... this low priced $330 NX30 is probably going to earn $amsung over 2.5k from me in a NX1 and lenses in the next year or so.
IF you know something I don't please tell me...
I'm always open to options and opinions I may have not considered... if you have any CONSTRUCTIVE input please reply.
