A little hard to judge on my smartphone during lunch hpur, but i like both, two different shots.
The b and w has a bit more drama and character whilst your son is a almost vintage, soft shot which fits him nicely.
I have the Sigma 1.4 50mm which is a bit soft wide open but it depends on personal preference.
Depends on the style your developing, but i say a big thumbs up to anyone leatning to do lighting and portrait work because its a whole different ball game than most other photography.
Well done and keep trying, look for more examples of what works and kerp posting.

Thanks robbo

Yes playing around to get some experience and to find my style and to be a little different....

The 50mm f1.4 is a little soft, but mostly it just needs some contrast, your sigma should be a tad sharper wide open...?
