Unbelievable 24-70 2.8 II & its bokeh

I have been totally stunned by the performance of both 70-200 2.8 II and 24-70 2.8 II and continue to be so each and every time I use these two zooms. Other than their weight, I now truly think that they are the best lenses to own and extremely versatile yet with exception IQ that even beats primes many many times!

Anyway the reason I started this thread was to find out if anyone had any useful insight into bokeh rendered by 24-70 2.8 II. I have 35 f2 IS and have owned/used 1.8 primes in the past and also own 135 f2 and 85 1.8 primes. The point is that I have used primes that provide apertures wider than 2.8. However I noticed that 24-70 2.8 II provides exceptional quality bokeh that one can actually be fooled to believe to be of an image taken by any of the primes offering wider apertures (wider than 2.8). Of course I am talking about this bokeh when taken at f2.8 and at 70mm. But in any case how is 24-70 2.8 II able to do this really? No wonder it is a very expensive lens but certainly there is something about its optics that makes this happen. One can say the same thing about 70-200 2.8 II @ 200 mm. However 70-200 is a long lens and I know that it will offer significant compression @200mm. That is not at all the case at 70mm when shot with 24-70. I mean compression @ 70mm with 24-70 will be certainly way lesser.

Anyway if anyone has any useful insight into this / or even disagree about this statement, please comment/reply.

thanks,
