Unacceptable reliability !

Lol.... I bought two fifities

First I bought the original Canon 50mm f1.8; its construction is so much superior to what is out there in this series of lenses.   It has large manual focus ring, nice touch to it, depth of field, all metal construction, a good lens.  Some speculate that Canon purposely dropped the quality mk 1 version of this lens to bring in the cheaper cousin which would encourage sales of the f1.4.

I too also bought the Sigma 50 f1.4; like many I did the reviews of the Canon 50 f1.4, probably reading hundreds of user reviews and learned it was a lens with problems - and reliability was one of them.  Read many complaints here in the Canon lens section of dpreview.

Canon is sometimes really slow to react but eventually they will get it right.  I suspect the new mk 2 version of the Canon 50 f1.4 will have IS, better image across focal range, and more than double the price. Hopefully they'll address reliability.
