What do you photograph at long range?

The FZ1000 is a monster in size. I put it in my sling-bag and it swallows space.

I've always used compact shoulder bags (not photographic equipment bags). I find them at luggage shops. They are less obtrusive in public.

I take my camera and gear to the shop and find a suitable one that holds everything. Here is the one I use for my FZ1000:

It is deep enough so that I can place on the bottom of the bag: ND and CPL filters; Achromat; extra battery; tripod quick plate; loupe. They are covered with a thick cloth on which the camera rests.

There are front and rear pouches for carrying a notebook, pencil, small bag of peanuts, etc.

Regarding a 14-140mm lens: I also have a m4/3 system. Both it and the FZ1000 serve different needs. Before getting the FZ1000, I considered a 14-140mm lens but realized that it would be too short for wildlife as I find it. The 100-300mm was an option, and I tried one for a week, but the constantly changing lenses was a hassle: I seemed to always have the wrong lens mounted, and would miss a wildlife opportunity from time to time. This is one reason (of several) why the FZ1000 is a better camera for nature photography for me.
