GUESS THE PLACE RULES

These are the rules for this continuing thread:

I will post a picture of a place on Earth in this thread. The person who guesses where it is (with my approval) can then post a new image of somewhere on Earth. And so on.

Both the city/town/area and the country must be stated.

It doesn't matter if it's really hard but keep in mind that people must have a chance to guess it. If nobody has guessed it after 48 hours, a new image may be posted by anyone. If more than one person posts a picture, the first image is in play.

New images must be posted as replies to the original message and within 24 hours; otherwise there will be a free turn.

All makes of cameras are welcome.

One famous English composer was baptized here; as a boy he had lessons in musical composition by the organist of this church.
That is a nice touch.....and very generous of you Hans, considering the background. ;-)

To keep it moving Hans I will post a guess. I think this is the The Marktkirche Unser Lieben Frauen in the city of Halle, Saxony-Anhalt. (Interestingly replacing two former churches but keeping their towers)

And of course George Frideric Handel was born Georg Friedrich Händel in Germany and only became a naturalized British subject at the age of 42.

You are right, of course. I was busy to find a photo that is not instantly identified by Google image search. Here are two from one of the towers. In the 2nd you see bottom left the monument of Händel, founded by English and German admirers.

Over to you.

One could go out on a limb and call it a bridge to nowhere…

A well photographed tourist attraction and relatively recent catastrophe survivor.

Sleep time down here now and a final photo in the morning....if absolutely necessary.

You need to climb the stairway to heaven to get here, preferably on your knees! Or you could let the water lift you up.

That's embarrassing. I'll need to look out the negs for that trip - it is possible that it has been scanned the wrong way round but other scans from that day look right. Will confirm ASAP.

Just checked original prints and negs and my image is definitely the right way round.

I think the Brazilian photographer was shooting from the small tower slightly right of centre next to the radio mast in this view below. So both images are the right way round, just different views.

Steve,

I think you were at The Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel da Penha (a.k.a. The Sanctuary of Penha), Monte da Penha, Penha-Costa 4810-038, Guimarães, Portugal ?

Its bedtime here and I expect I'll be away tomorrow, so free turn, if correct, please.

Pat.
