Olympus 40-150 f2.8 with EM-5 mk2 doesn't like shooting toward bright light?

I'm having an interesting time getting to grips with the behaviour of the above combination.

In most circumstances I am getting excellent results with fast focusing, great detail and colour and some of the best IQ I've seen with Olympus

One area I don't seem to be so successful with is shooting birds and other small subjects across water with brightly lit backgrounds. The system seems to struggle to get consistent focus lock and the images are less sharp and lacking clarity

I'm guessing that using a CPL filter is going to resolve most of this (its on order) but I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this effect

It seems more sensitive to these lighting conditions than any of my current and previous Olympus lens (the 50-200 SWD on the EM-1 certainly was nowhere near as sensitive.)

Any thoughts / observations will be welcome

(I have a used EM-1 in the pipeline if a part-ex deal comes through so will be interested to see if I get this effect with that. My earlier EM-1 with the 50-200 SWD was pretty bombproof in these conditions)

So much to learn, so little time left to do it!
