Canon 550d/T2i or Olympus E-M5 Mk II - Should I change?? much difference??

Hi,

I’m looking for some advice… I currently have a Canon 550d/T2i that I bought in early 2010. This almost exclusively has my 15-85mm f3.5/5.6 (24-135 full frame equivalent) Canon lens attached. I use my camera when backpacking around the world so I’ve found this lens to have the perfect zoom range for this. I use it for travel photography and would like to get into using the video more often etc also. Along with the Canon 550d/T2i, I also have a pocket Canon S100 which is good for the pocket, good image quality and very good 24fps video. The things I like about my 550d/T2i SLR are as follows:

- 15-85mm, great zoom range and good image quality.

- 24fps video – is the Canon video better than the Olympus?

I’m happy with the image quality etc but obviously I’d always like better… It’s been over 5 years since I purchased so quality must have moved on and improved? So… I’ve been considering an Olympus E-M5 Mark II Camera with a 12-40 f/2.8 pro lens (24-80 full frame equivalent). For the following main reasons:

- Smaller and lighter? Although the differences perhaps not that vast?

- 50/60 fps video for slow motion

- better low light?

- does it have a built in timelapse feature?

My main question is… will I swap to the Olympus to discover:

- My Canon with my 15-85mm actually had a better image quality? I already had the perfect solution? Or will I be delighted with the benefits the newer Olympus has?

- Will I miss the extra zoom range of the Canon?

- Will my hands be too big for the E-M5 Mk II?

Another main reason I’m considering all this is that I am currently in Australia (I’m from the UK) and:

- Olympus E-M5 MKII + Pro 12-40 Lens on Amazon UK is £1,500 / 3,200 AUD / 2,335 USD

In Australia I can get the same thing for £838 / 1,788 AUD / 1,305 USD. I can then get $250 back through an Olympus Cashback promotion and also the GST back at the airport around 10% making the final cost around £640 / 1,360 AUD / 995 USD. Almost one third of the UK price?!?

The only thing I’m not sure of is, the Olympus warranty might be for Australia and NZ only? Or is it worldwide? I’ve heard mixed reports.

I think I can sell my Canon 15-85 lens on eBay in the UK for around £400. The camera body is a bit beaten so I don’t think it would be worth much.

So… opinions? Should I change to an Olympus E-M5 Mk II with 12-40 Pro lens? Or stick with my Canon 550d with 15-85. Opinions are greatly appreciated!

An example of some of my photography… few recent trips, 80 to 90% of the pics taken with the Canon and 15-85 lens:

Thanks.
