Re: Canon 24mm 2.8 1988 Version

Yep, I bought this lens two weeks ago and I use it on a 6D. It's great. It beats my 17-40 at 24mm at all apertures, not by a great amount but enough to notice, especially at big apertures.

There are quite a few reviews about which all say it's very respectable. The price you can get them for makes them a bargain considering the next version up costs way more.

I'm a wide angle type of shooter and my 17-40 is a very nice lens and gives good results, but when compared to even some inexpensive primes it falls a bit short. It does great considering its range but for now the 24mm 2.8 mk1 will be my standard wide angle unless I need the 17mm.

I found AF to be quite adequate and not noisy, you can hear it but it's quite acceptable. Plus it's half the size and weight of my 17-40.

The old Mk 1 50mm 1.8 also beats the crap out of the 17-40 obviously taking into account the 10mm difference.

These are straight from the 6D, no editing. Check out the metalwork atop the spires. Tripod MLU.
