I'm a video creator and just switched from the GH4 to the C100 for my fast turnaround workflow. Previously I used the Panasonic 35-100 f/2.8, and need to find a C100 telephoto alternative. I've been doing a lot of browsing on the differences between the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 OS and the Canon 70-200 f/4 IS. From what I gather, the IQ on the Sigma is better than on the Canon, but I haven't found much on the differences in the optical/image stabilization. For my shooting style, which is usually strictly on a monopod, having good lens stabilization is very important. Anyone with experience on either or both able to attest to one having better stabilization than the other?
i haven't used sigma 70-200 myself but i have heard it is heavy! as far as canon 70-200 f4.0IS is concerned, i had one for many years until i lost it and took it around the world with me with fantastic result. IQ and IS of this lens is top notch. it rivals or better any 70-200 category of any brand. if compare photos of both canon's best, 70-200 f2.8 II IS, and this lens, you'd have hard time telling the difference! IS is the same 4 stop as the f2.8II. the factor that puts the f4.0 IS on top is the less weight f4.0IS for travel. you can take it on trips without too much concern about hauling extra weight in your camera bag. hope that answers some of your questions. good luck.
