I was thinking the same thing about the parallel viewfinder feed.
You could attach on the phone screen one of those supercheap VR viewers like google cardboard or my personal preference ... http://goggletech.net/index.php?route=product/product&path=33&product_id=30
If the synhronization actually works then someone could design a device that includes both a dual mount for the lens cameras and a parallel VR viewer for the phone screen. This could be 3d printable and very cheap to produce.
...
I think it might be just a tad clumsy to operate the touch screen controls with a phone tucked up inside a google cardboard or something else of that ilk
Sony makes extension bracket sets to allow the QXs to clamp on all sorts of larger devices, as well as a tilt/hinge to go between a QX and the bracket.
If I get the pair of cameras working okay, I'll scrounge up such of those as I have accumulated, order whatever I am missing, and clamp the QXs side by side on a tablet. That will give me a waist level finder with easily accessed controls, and easily adjustable camera separation. I'm comfortable enough with freeviewing that I should be quite happy with that.
First of all good luck with your attempts.
Regarding freeviewing (parallel) it only works if the width of the two images is less than the distance between your eyes ~65mm so it might work better on a phone. For larger displays crossview works great.
I only suggested a cardboard like device because most people cannot do parallel viewing so it could be easier for them.
Anyway even if you can only see the feed from one camera i think its gonna be good enough. Your own eyes can tell you how 3d the scene will be.
