issues with Nikkor 28mm F/3.5 and NX30 focus assist

I purchased an adapter so that I could use some of my Nikon glass with the NX30 and that all seems to work great, except that with my old non-AI manual-everything 28mm the focus assist feature doesn't seem to work very accurately. It gives me the focus highlight in a very broad range of depths. In the image below, focus assist read Hannah's eyelashes as in-focus when the focal plane is pretty clearly somewhere near the back of her head. When I use focus assist with some of my other manual, non-Samsung lenses, it behaves normally.

Obviously I don't know that there's a solution to this issue per se. I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts about why this might be happening with that lens specifically?
