Also note the speed and flexibility of the bean bag for stabilizing the lens.  Clamps would have to be moved constantly.  Sometimes you are surrounded by good subjects.  Other times there is one subject that travels from one side of the car to the other.  The bean bag can be quickly moved to shoot out the other side of the vehicle.  This is priceless.  You will miss shots if you use a clamp or monopod.  Also, sometimes there were blades of grass or a branch in front of the animal's face.  By just moving the camera and bag a bit further along the roof, I could get a clear shot.  This is super fast with the bag.

Just make sure you practice with the bean bag before you go to Africa.
