What really gets me about all this is that it should be of interest to non-3D photographers as well
Only half my interest here is stereo photography. I'd also like to be able to control multiple cameras with different points of view and focal lengths.
For instance, when I'm watching my grandson playing, I'd like to be able to set up QXs at different fixed locations covering most or all of where he is playing with wooden trains on the floor, then use a handheld zoom (maybe an RX100_ ?) to do what I regularly do, composing a mixture of shots - while every time I release the shutter, all the cameras would make exposures. I don't want to think about which camera I want for which moment, just "squeeze" and I have multiple images. It doesn't matter if all but one are throw-aways, memory cards are big and cheap. The little bugger tends to pose every time I point the camera I'm holding, so I'd happily take pictures of my lap while the bookcase camera captures the moment.
Same thing with photographing trains - QXs clamped to fences or tree branches, control camera in my hand, a handful of good shots from one QX, just one perhaps from another, several maybe from my handheld - but the same undifferentiated click no matter which camera I have in mind.
Others might find that useful for sports & other action photography, maybe even street photography, maybe wedding photography, maybe a dozen other things I haven't thought of.
So why isn't every Sony camera that can download apps able to serve as a controller, and as a controllee?
If they want to sell me another piece of hardware - a sort of wi-fi hub that can take commands from a smartphone and send them to n different cameras, good fine a-okay by-gosh-i'll-buy-one.
And I'd do a lot more stereo photography and regular photography and I'd buy a lot less non-sony equipment.
/end-of-rant/
and what might be really cool is if all those multiple viewpoint cameras were doubled and making stereo images
what is it that Sony has against people who want to buy two of everything?
[somebody send this to Sony for me - I have to go lie down now]
