Upgrade question for the experts

I've learned a lot from this forum and know this has been asked before but I"m looking advice & opinions. I've had a Canon T5 for a year now and have just fallen head over heels for wildlife & bird photography. I took the next step lens wise and purchased the 400mm 5.6L and absolutely love it.

I know the T5 is an entry level camera (gift from my wife) and I want to take the next step up to a camera that matches well with my new lens, but also will last me the next many years of photography. I do virtually no video but like the option of having it available.

If I knew then what i know now, I would have steered my wife away from the T5. It's not a bad camera and I've taken some nice pics with it but I'm ready for some better image quality. I know practice and hard work make good pictures and I'm doing that but ready for a better camera. Thank you.

Canon EOS 1200D (EOS Rebel T5 / EOS Kiss X70)
