Re: Hokay - Have the EM5-II here
. Have you noticed how the E-M5 II seems to be very sharply and accurately cast in its bodywork? It has quite a "posh" feel to it somehow, as though they made a special effort to make it feel sharp and solid. Or maybe it's just because I like it - these things are subjective, as I said...
I have to admit (and I`m SURE its the silver-ness helping here) that my first thought was very Pentax ME-Super in feel and looks moreso than the OM1/2 series but a solid metal film SLR from the 70s, YES .
Yes, BTW, you now have the option of the camera remembering where you left the menu, as you have probably noticed. The shutter is equally as quiet when it's running normally (on mine) - it's just a really quiet shutter mechanism.
I hate the way the older cams return to top after coming out of the Menus - Canon , Nikon etc have remembered last position for decades ......... the shutter is the quietest next to a Panny GM for definite ..........
BTW one thing which is archaic is that when using flash it doesn`t automatically use "Live View boost" like every other camera on the planet (bar some Fujis which are equally irritating) ..... the EM1/5/10 were the same ait`s damn annoying I was hoping that Boost-2 would have been "LV boost only with flash" but Oly ain`t that clever it would seem ......
I don't know about the bitrate, but yes, it still scans pretty slowly (around 1/25 I guess)
LOL 25th is FAAST ! . the GX7 is 10th and the GM5 15th if I remember rightly and the GMs are limited to only a 10 bit output like the GH4 .
so you get the banding in the "wrong" types of lighting at the "wrong" shutter speeds.
Ahh well, it`s not as if it`s a deal breaker with that quiet shutter - it was with the GX7`s embarrassing bear-trap
Glad to see it went successfully from your later post. Lovely little flash, isn't it?
yeah, it`s got more poke that I expected too - can bounce indoors and be usable . it`s going to be THE to-go flash for the GM5 ..... the EM5-II has the FL600 ......
dontcha thing it`s NASTY of Olympus in deliberately making this flash GM5/LX-unfriendly ? .. if they had any sense they`d go out of their way to make it as GM friendly as possible and sell it separately to GM5 & LX100 owners as the one which comes with those cameras is as sad as the popup twinklers on compacts . I don`t understand Japanese cam makers sometime, I bet they`d make more cash selling those things for £90 to LX100 owners than they make on the whole EM5-II over a year - LOL
It'll happily work on a Canon dedicated flash extender cable too between it and the E-M5 II which is handy, because it has the same pin layout (funnily enough it doesn't use the central X contact at all if you look at the foot of the flash - I assume the one for the GM5/LX100 is the same?)
The GM one only has the 4 pins too - there`s no way I`d use the tiny little thing on a big clumsy canon extension (which I have - the end is almost as big as the flas) , may as well use the FL600R
