Re: Hokay - Have the EM5-II here

It's all subjective of course, but I always think the E-M5 II is an utterly beautiful looking camera, whether silver or all-black. It's got the single-digit OM look spot-on, thanks to the shape of the "prism" and the fact that the baseplate is finally shallow enough to look convincing -

Yeah, always thought that with the 5 and 10 - the silver EM1 reminds me of a quacky plastic DSLR for some reason ..... the only really Naff bit of the 5-II is the port cover, it looks about as weathersealed as a sieve, I`d not want water running down my hand onto that !

Hopefully there's weather sealing inside the body at that area, but who knows...  I'm not about to check!  Yes, for me the silver E-M5 doesn't quite work because of its shape, which is less retro due to the handgrip being more reminiscent of DSLRs.  Have you noticed how the E-M5 II seems to be very sharply and accurately cast in its bodywork?  It has quite a "posh" feel to it somehow, as though they made a special effort to make it feel sharp and solid.  Or maybe it's just because I like it - these things are subjective, as I said...

th The delay is now initially set up in Shooting Menu 2,

So I take it then that setting it the same as the EM1 (Diamond shooting mode with 0-sec) engages the true EFCS on the 5-II .. it sure seems to make less noise, in fact it barely makes any more noise than the tiny Stepper shutter in the GM1/5 or the Aperture diaphragm in some lenses ! -

Yes, the same way to set it as with the E-M1 etc., except that the selection of the timing has migrated up into Shooting Menu 2 rather than being way down in one of the gear menus.  BTW, you now have the option of the camera remembering where you left the menu, as you have probably noticed.  The shutter is equally as quiet when it's running normally (on mine) - it's just a really quiet shutter mechanism.

"Silent" mode now really is only for 16,000th sec shooting I guess apart from rare hear a "pin drop" events ..... BTW has anyone found out if the E-Shutter has the same limitations as the Panasonics such as slow scanning like the GX7 , reduced bitrate like the GH4 / GM series and banding in sone lighting like all the Panasonics ?

I don't know about the bitrate, but yes, it still scans pretty slowly (around 1/25 I guess) so you get the banding in the "wrong" types of lighting at the "wrong" shutter speeds.  Weirdly, high res mode [only] allows you to use flash with it though (the silent shutter is compulsory for high res mode, which is sensible since it hates camera movement).

That lovely quiet shutter mechanism (which is the only shutter I've ever actually enjoyed the sound of!) sounds pretty much the same whether in EFCS or not.

I actually thought it was quieter in EFCS (Diamond 0-sec in EM1 speak) mode

I just detect a slightly different character to the sound (probably duration or sequence of sounds, but broadly similar between EFCS and normal).

I don't have a GM5, but I believe you need to carefully shave the little flange down at the front of the FL-LM3's foot

Thanks - hopefully it still fits the EM5-II OK afterwards

Glad to see it went successfully from your later post.  Lovely little flash, isn't it?  It'll happily work on a Canon dedicated flash extender cable too between it and the E-M5 II which is handy, because it has the same pin layout (funnily enough it doesn't use the central X contact at all if you look at the foot of the flash - I assume the one for the GM5/LX100 is the same?)
