Eventually high prices and a very slow pace of innovation will come to an end. The largely Japanese camera industry will face a challenge from China. The process is in the early stages but give it 5 years.

They need Japan; need to steal technology from somewhere...

If you will remember, Japan started by producing poor copies of existing products.  China is way ahead of that and has the world's most advanced, sophisticated manufacturing and an army of highly trained engineers and scientists.  They are already making lenses and simple cameras.  The rest will come soon, first with copies, then with better cameras than the Japanese can produce.
