I happen to have exactly those two cameras, so I have experience with both.
Excellent - always good to get comments from someone with 1st hand experience
- Focus peaking does help a lot with MF, and specially with Macro.
- Magnified view is also very good, but the whole EVF gains in low light if you enable that option on the menu, so is not specific to just magnified mode.
At least that does make the behaviour consistent. I have occasionally gone into magnified view on the G5 for a low light shot, forgetting that the gain up on the full frame view turns into a black hole........
I haven't felt that the G5 focus particularily faster or better in low light than the E-M10, I believe it mostly depends on the lens you use. My 45mm 1.8 focus very fast in low light, but the 20mm tends to hunt a bit, in both cameras.
I already have the 20mm but I can see the 45mm 1.8 may find its way on to my shopping list soon.
I use the G5 mostly for video nowadays, although I'm shooting more video with the E-M10 due to manual control, since the G5 doesn't have any kind of it.
I know what you mean. The output from the G5 is excellent - if it gets the exposure right. I've frequently wished I could set it manually.
Image quality wise, the E-M10 have the edge due to the improved sensor and processing engine, but the best feature of the E-M10 is the incredible amount of customization options it provides. Is night and day in this regard compared to the G5. I truly believe they both make a great combo.
It sounds like it. I'm just sorting out part exchange prices for some of my old gear (Pany G1, Oly EPL1 and VF-2) and then I'll place my order!
Thanks Martin
