A tale of two Eyecups
2

I just received my Panasonic EC2 Eyecup to attach to my viewfinder on the Lumix GM5 µ43's camera pictured below:

Eyecup for Lumix GM5

I had to pay a ridiculous price ($30) on Ebay and wait for it to be shipped from Japan (at least the shipping was free). I wish Panasonic would get their marketing in order!

I'm saying, based on my experience with Olympus Eyecups (OMD-EM5) and Panasonic Eyecups (GM5) that each could learn a lesson from each other.

First I've upgraded my EM5 to the EP5 because I find the latter suits me better (2x2 dial switch). I do recall that the additional Eyecup (forgot model number) for the EM5 kept falling off the camera and could easily get lost. I resolved that problem with a spot of super glue on one side of the Eyecup. The Eyecup was basically a plastic rectangular mount with the 'wings' made of a rubber material. This rubber material allowed me to pull the top of the Eyecup, while still mounted on the EVF, down in order to attach accessories to the Hot Shoe/APS Slot.

The new Panasonic is made of plastic and does not flex at all. The benefit is that it takes some effort to remove the Eyecup but the plastic 'wings' don't flex at all and you can't insert anything into the GM5's Hot Shoe. This GM5 Eyecup will not, IMHO, come off easily in any situation. The drawback to this is to mount anything to the GM5's Hot Shoe this Eyecup will have to be temporarily removed.

If Panasonic could show Olympus how to construct the rectangular plastic mounting design and Olympus could show Panasonic how to fabricate rubber 'wings' on their plastic mount we would all have a win-win Eyecup!
