Here in Taiwan they cost exactly the same :/ I don't know the cause of that since both companies are from Japan and import taxes should be the same. It happens the same with Tamron, more expensive here than in the Us.
For the same price I'd pick the Panny for the extra wide end.
Wow, that pricing's crazy. Here in the UK Amazon are selling the 9-18 for £360.00 and the 7-14 for £850!!!!!
