Best Sci-Fi looks / still surprisingly relevant on modern sensors

If you liked Unreal Tournament, then this is your go to lens. With lens hood attached, people nervously stare at you. With lens hood reversed, it's next best thing to an actual link gun.

LARPing aside, the lens is still surprisingly relevant even on the D800, if you enjoy portraits/shallow DOF work. Indeed, it deliver more on D800 than it ever did on D700.

It kind of lacks the IQ to shoot landscapes seriously, and produces too heavy vignetting for that purpose, but as a portrait lens, or a single hiking/backountry/walkaround companion it's quite good.

Difficult to buy new/used in good condition, thankfully the mount is chrome-plated brass that shows through with wear.

Most copies I've tried had rarely-occuring and "hiccups" with AF where AF wouldn't start. Nudging focus ring gently usually helped. It doesnt seem to deteriorate with time, so probably it's a software error in full-time manual override detection (rather than a worn ribbon cable somewhere inside) so I stopped worrying.
