K-50 vs D5300 for a friend.

Greeting everyone. I shoot Pentax and read these forums just about every day but rarely post but I have a question about these two cameras. My friend is needing a new camera now that her Nikon D70 is waning in the tooth a bit.

She wants to stick with Nikon as it's a better known brand and she is used to how they work. She shoots some events, portraits, travel and doesn't really want to learn flash yet, just available light. She has the 18-70mm Nikon kit lens which is actually a pretty good lens so she would just need the body only and a couple of primes. So, the K-50 with the 18-55mm and 55-300mm are about the same price as the D5300 body only to go with her kit lens, actualy the Pentax would still be about $50 cheaper. Plus the 50mm f/1.8 is like $110 bucks right now for low light and portraiture. Is the 16mp sensor still relevant? I know it does a little better in low light and the K-50 is weather sealed but the D5300 is newer tech. If she does the occasional wedding do you think the K-50 with the kit lens or 50mm f/1.8 would be OK? Also, no 85mm f/1.8 for the Pentax. If she is doing portraits and events would the Nikon with a fast fifty and the 85mm and a few more pixels be worth it? She is OK spending $1000 - $1200 in the next month so any advice would help.

Thanks.
