Re: Best lenses for cruise/ vacation Istanbul, Myconos, Valetta, Pompei & Rome

Thanks for your time and advice Juardis!

The common denominator is that almost all suggest a wide lens for old narrow streets and huge old buildings both inside and outside. For this a fast and wide lens with IS is really helpful.

For this trip the 24mm wide end on my 24-70f/2,8L II will have to do. This lens has really great IQ and clarity better than most good primes, love it! Only drawbacks is 805g and price but I knew that when I bought it.

My second lens is the 70-200f/4L IS love this lens and use it almost every day for indoor and outdoor sports, people and wildlife. It is really sharp and the IS is very good. I am sure I will find good use for it from the ship and some use on land for capturing people and details inside Hagia Sophia. Perhaps more uses will arise along the way.

I don't know why but I can't really stop thinking of the small Canon EF 35f/2 IS. But it is silly of me, having the fantastic 24-70f/2,8L II surely makes the small prime redundant?

The prime only has similar IQ, weight, size, slightly higher resolution, IS and one single stop more to offer, but non of the zooms flexibility offering excellent 24, 28, 35, 50 and 70mm all sharp @f/2.8.

I really love small sharp primes and perhaps it is selling my Leica M9P and Summilux 35f/1.4 & 50f/1.4 that now haunts me?

Sorry to se that the scaffolding is still in place inside Hagia Sofia, 3 years now?
