When you need it compact with a zoom: Buy a compact with a fixed zoom lens!

This what Canon's CEO said, and I do agree.

When you want to use it with the EF adapter, buy a 100D/SL1.

M3 is great for street photography with 22mm attached. Image quality is fantastic, autofocus a lot better than M-Classic. I contacted canon with a question about focussing with a single autofocus point, as too often it focusses on the background.

it's compact with this lens, and fits in a small lowepro case on your belt.

Menu structure resembles G7x, which I don't like. M classic was more eos like. Though the touch screen is good, less items can be selected by touch compared to M-Classic.

For me, the M3 is an alternative to my 5D3 when it has to be compact and/or unobtrusive. Also the everyday camera. Is it perfect? No. But the M3 is not bad at all, and image quality is fantastic.
