Odd autofocus problem with new NX500

My new NX500 arrived and these are typical of my results checking it out for 3 days. I haven't heard of this issue - obviously I got a lemon. I thought at first it was the lens - but I noted that one in five images were focused properly and were quite sharp. Just the same I tried my 30mm on it and the results were close to the same - maybe 20% were in focus.

Obviously all were in good lighting, aperture priority, stopped down to f/5.6 or 8.0. OIS was on with the 16-50 but, as I said, results were the same with the 30mm, so that ruled out an OIS problem.  I shot raw + JPEG and the raws were the same, ruling out an in-camera JPEG processing issue.

I sent the kit back and dusted off the NX1000 for now till I decide what to do. I've had nothing but great results from all my other Samsung ILC's so I'll get another one of some variety. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this sort of issue.

Focus was on the bridge, but it doesn't matter, nothing's in focus.

Great pile of trash to find details.

Again, nothing in focus.

Tried a different focal length, same results.

Focus was on the door.
