I have no idea, since I've never owned a SP-350.

IIf you plug in the AV cable (with the yellow RCA plug on one end), on most Olympus cameras, it will assume the camera is connected to an external monitor/TV and not display anything on the screen.  If you want to see the screen, you could remove the cable (or get an external monitor used for 3rd party car backup systems, and hook it to the camera).

Most Olympus cameras have an option to disable the flash.  You just have to go menu diving to turn it off.  Of course you need enough light that the camera can take pictures without the flash.  Cameras of that era tended to be best at ISO 100, and 400 tended to need more post processing to be usable.
