The 17-55 is really old technology. I considered it for a while, but the IS noise makes it unsuitable for use in shooting video. That is a deal-killer for me.

Old technology? Really? Too noisy? Have you actually used this lens?

I do find the STM to be really, really good for video with the 70D and 7DII. But if you're really concerned about good quality audio, you won't be using built-in microphones, anyway. Even an inexpensive off-camera recorder like the Tascam DR-series, for instance, will give worlds better audio quality without having to give up the 17-55's wonderful, bright f2.8 aperture.

Nine years is a very, very long time in the world of digital photography. This lens show it.
I am not picky terribly picky about sound quality, but I expect IS in a modern lens to not be audible. My $200 kit lens and totally silent. Noisey IS out of a $900 lens is unacceptable to me. That is a lot of money for me to spend on a thing  that is not just what I want.
