Re: Anybody here heard of camera profiles !?

Hi Ted
I've also read (prob on these forums) that SD14s have their colour calibrated in the factory and burnt into the firmware so that SPP can individually correct each camera and that LR doesn't use this - hence a bigger problem with colour casts.
Certainly there is a lot more stuff in a dump of SD14 meta-data compared to SD9/10, mostly written in Foveon-ese and intelligible to nobody. Definitely some sensor tags in there, and quite a lot to do with JPEG capability, too.
I have built a number of DNG colour profiles with the adobe tool and also the colour checker passport software including profiles for my SD9 and SD14. My experience is that the profiles work pretty well with the SD14 and I've build a number of variants for different colour temps and one or two special effects ones.
Good job. I played with the Adobe RAW-DNG converter and the DNG editor but didn't find them too user-friendly. The crunch came after I developed a .dng file but found there was nowhere to store it in the Elements 6 directory structure. That is to say that, no matter what profiles folder I put it into, ACR never showed it in the drop down list of camera profiles. Always said "embedded"
No surprise then that, these days, there is not a single Adobe app. or plug-in on my main computer. Not even Flash or Reader
The SD9 is altogether different. None of my profiles really seem to make a big difference, it's just a bit too weird to be tameable with a simple DNG correction. Maybe you know how?
I use RawTherapee and was able to "tame" the beast a little just by archiving one of their side-car files (*.pp3). I also had a *.dcp profile (which RawTherapee can also use) but I think it got lost in my computer crash before last
