GX7: Highlight Shadow; Had I done something wrong?
1

Dear friends, taking the opportunity of good sunny day after a month of unstable weather, I took the newly bought GX7 for another round of testing.

It was a sunny day, direct sun over head, observatory reported 32°C/89°F but felt like 36°C /97°F and humid, a few cloud in blue sky.

Highlight Shadow is a new toy to me and had experimented it on that day. A few tests had messed up by applying a wrong curve (originally intended to increase contrast looking forward to offset the haze across the harbor, but used a wrong curve to further flatten the scene!).

The following 2 OOC jpegs were most debatable shootings form my series of experiment.

Originally I wished to brighten up the shadow area (buildings) having the highlight (cloud) be preserved. So, Highlight Shadow curve (shadow +0, highlight -5) was applied let me reduced SS from 1/2000" to 1/1000" & +0.33ev.

I couldn't decide which looking better / more nature or even usable. Had I gone for the wrong direction in using Highlight Shadow or better shoot it normal and partial PP later?

Would appreciate your comment and opinion. Thank you.

Normal shooting

Highlight Shadow applied, Shadow +0, highlight -5
