New NX500 user here with a lot of questions
May 28, 2015
When I was 12 all I wanted for my birthday was a camera. I have no idea what was called but I remember bringing it everywhere with me. One of my sisters asked to borrow my camera and dropped it. She told me sorry once and that was it. I probably used it for about a year and half. Had to cut grass the be able to afford the film cost.
Recently went through a bit of midlife crisis and now finding myself wanting to get back into photography. Was going to pick up a nx300m but the cheapest I could find was 450 usd so instead I grabbed an nx500 for 600 usd.
The reason I went with Samsung is that to me it seemed like the best bang for my money. I really don't know if I made the best choice on camera brand but I made a choice and now I want to see just how far I can go with it.
When picking up the camera I also picked up the 45mm prime. I went through a ton of internet pictures before deciding on the 45mm over the 30 and 20. Does Samsung have any other affordable(less than 300) lens that performs as well as their 45mm? I would love something that was wider.
When using manual focus with the 45mm sometimes I get these strange white outlines on the lcd screen. They don't show up in the pictures and when take a shot the white lines vanish. Not a huge problem but I'm wondering if that is normal?
The other lens I have is the kit lens. I love the fact that it is a 16-50mm lens but I don't like using it. Granted I'm new to this so it's probably a lot of user error. The quality difference between the lenses is a night and day difference. Any tips at all to improve my experience with my 16-50 kit lens? Comparing both lenses at f5.6 I can still tell a huge difference between them.
Software. A lot of the reviews I read said that capture one does the best raw. So I started a free trial with them. That was a waste because they don't support the nx500 yet. Any recommendations here would be appreciated.
To sum things up:
Looking for a wider lens and a tele lens that is close to the performance of the 45mm.
Looking for software recommendations to work on raws.
Is the strange white lines that sometimes appear on the LCD screen when using MF normal?
