Home made mounted red dot sight illustrated
2

Firstly from a gun-unaware person from a gun-rare country I am not that aware of gun sight mounts.  It seems that I have a Weaver Picatinny mount after all.

I have the small red dot sight apparently made principally as a pistol sight.  It is loosely described on eBay in various ways "Mini Reflex Holographic Red Dot Sight Scope Dual Brightness".  It does not have a brand name but "Micro 3 MOA" might be a model name and its dimensions are listed as 40x28x35 mm.  Which makes it lie in the smallest size bracket of these sights.  Perhaps more suited to cameras.

It only has red as a dot colour but has two levels of brightness but its operation is satisfactory.  Elevation and windage are adjusted by allen key and the lack of an easy access elevation adjustment dial might be a problem from a parallax point of view.  It might help if the sight is mounted closer to the camera body.  But (short of birds) a few test shots seem to be promising when adjusted to likely bird range.

The sight sells in the "$20" range.

I simply took a standard "$2" easily obtained part and added a second made up  plate via a drilled and tapped hole with a supporting nut and the whole extension araldited in place for extra strength.  You have to make sure that the top and bottom plates are square.

Seems to work - illustrated fitted to a GX7 with Olympus 75/1.8.  It will interfere with both flash and evf swivel - but we cannot have everything ...

Now to find some birds ...
