100D vs M3 with Tamron 28-270mm
100D vs M3 with Tamron 28-270mm
May 24, 2015
I recently acquired the EOS 100D and I have been trying it out with my Tamron 28-270mm superzoom and so far I'm not that impressed with the results, especially at the widest setting.
At first I was quite impressed with the speed of the AF but looking closer at the pictures the focus doesn't seem to be very precise. Now I tried to compare results with same lens mounted on an EOS M3 where AF is unfortunately not compatible with the Tamron, but manual focus can be done quite fast thanks to the focus peaking feature. The same scene taken with the M3 MF appears much clearer than with 100D AF.
In the example below, zoom in on the walls in the lower right and notice how much clearer the individual bricks can be recognized in the M3 shot compared to the 100D. Am I missing something? Is there some setting on the 100D that can improve the AF precision?
