XF 16-55 mm is marginally better the kit lens XF 18-55 mm!

I recently bought the XF 16-55 mm f/2.8 and tested it against the kit lens XF 18-55 came with X-E1. Advantage of the 16-55 mm is constant f-number and very good IQ at 55 mm wide open for portrait. It is slightly contrasty and slightly better IQ than the kit lens for equivalent focal length and aperture. However, there is one interesting point that the image quality degrades for very distant objects at 55 mm when compared with kit lens. I suspected the image quality for both lenses may be indistinguishable after pp in LR except the DOF generated by the large aperture. Moreover, drawback of 16-55 is the heavy weight and lack of IS. Is this the same experience for those who own both lenses?

Perhaps, my final conclusion is that the kit lens is already so good!
