Samyang 7.5mm, sharpness and... sh*sh*?
1

Having seen a very tempting offer I did not resist… and bought a Samyang 7.5mm!

Received the lens yesterday, and today I checked it. 100% crops for center and corners, shot handhold using an E-P5. IBIS on (set to 8mm). Anti-shock 0s and short release lag.

The images seem to confirm the photozone review, here (sigh) with some decentering: corners are better top & right, worse bottom & left.

Lens is very sharp already at f3.5, maybe even better at f5.6, then softens slightly at f8.0.

Top corners just slightly softer than center at 3.5, improve at 5.6, nearly the same but now matching center at 8.0.

Bottom corners are worse: that has to be my lens' fault.

And now something interesting… two additional sets of images at f8.0. They were shot earlier when sun was shaded by clouds. Shutter speed was lower: 1/200s. Would have been a dangerous shutter speed for an E-P5 before the 0s-antishock… Or still can be? there is an odd sharpness loss compared to the first set of images. I don't want to use the sh*sh* word, but center and partly top seem to show slightly blurred horizontal lines.

f 3.5

f 5.6

f 8.0 at 1/400s

f 8.0 at 1/200s (1st set)

f 8.0 at 1/200s (2nd set)

Olympus PEN E-P5
